Seven Supplements for Fail Proof Effectiveness: Unveiling the Promises of 2 Peter

Knowing our life can be filled with failure and shortsightedness, many seek a formula for a life that is not only effective and fruitful but also resilient against failure. Can such a formula truly exist? According to the biblical wisdom found in 2 Peter, the answer is a resounding yes. In this passage, Peter outlines a list of seven supplements to our faith, akin to a daily multivitamin regimen, promising not only a resilient faith but also a rich entrance into heaven. Let’s explore these faith supplements and the profound promise they hold for us, our leadership, and our organizations.

The Foundation of Faith:

The passage begins by emphasizing the divine power that has granted believers everything they need for life and godliness and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. This divine power is bestowed upon us through the knowledge of Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:3-4). This foundation of faith, given to us by Jesus, becomes the starting point for the seven supplements that follow.

The Seven Supplements (1 Peter 1-11):

1. Virtue:

The first supplement, virtue, is a moral excellence that flows from our faith. It involves living a life marked by goodness, integrity, and purity. As Christian business owners, practicing virtue in our professional and personal lives sets the stage for a business that reflects the character of Christ.

2. Knowledge:

Building upon virtue, knowledge is the second supplement. It’s not just any knowledge but a deep understanding of God and His ways, allowing us to navigate life with biblical wisdom and discernment. In the business world, this knowledge guides ethical decision-making and fosters a workplace culture rooted in Christian principles. This requires time in God’s word and studying scripture.

3. Self-Control:

The third supplement, self-control, is the ability to govern our desires and impulses. It empowers us to make choices aligned with our faith rather than succumbing to worldly temptations. This quality is crucial in maintaining integrity and upholding ethical standards in our businesses. It is a deep reliance on the Holy Spirit. Possible though His power not ours.

4. Steadfastness:

Steadfastness, the fourth supplement, is the quality of enduring challenges and remaining unwavering in our commitment to Christ despite trials, tribulations, or cultural pressures.

5. Godliness:

Godliness, the fifth supplement, involves living a life that reflects the character of God. It is a holiness that manifests in our actions, attitudes, and relationships. In the business realm, godliness could translate into fair practices and putting others’ needs before your own.

6. Brotherly Affection:

The sixth supplement, brotherly affection, emphasizes the importance of genuine love and camaraderie within the community of believers. It fosters a sense of unity and mutual care. In the business context, this quality extends to serving the church and Christian organizations with the resources of your organization.

7. Love:

Love, the seventh and final supplement, is the culmination of these qualities. It is a selfless, sacrificial love that mirrors the love of Christ, binding all the supplements together. In business, this love extends beyond transactions; it is patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs, rejoices with the truth, always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

2 Peter 1 is a direct call to work hard and grow so that we can be productive and useful in our knowledge of Christ. Growth in the knowledge of God and Jesus must supersede any career, personal or organization growth goals we may have. First we grow in Him, and then the rest will follow (Matthew 6:33).
